In order to assist in your membership recruiting efforts during these extraordinary times, I’m announcing effective immediately and for the remainder of this term the Department will contribute $100 to your post for all new Life Members added to your rolls. We expect the Post to match the $100 DPA contribution; thereby making the Life Membership very affordable by reducing the cost by a total of $200.
I’m writing to inform you despite our best efforts, including looking at alternate sites, we must cancel our in-person DPA convention scheduled for Pattaya Beach on 27 June. Instead, we will be conducting a virtual convention. The virtual convention will be on 19 June @ 0830 Thailand time. We will be using the Zoom platform, a link will be provided by PDC and current Adjutant Shawn Watson during the next month or so. We expect the convention to last approximately two hours. We will have reports by Council members and a few committee chairmen, but not the typical number of reports. Please provide a written copy of your report to ADJ Watson whether presented at the convention or not. We will notify the committee chairman who will be presenting oral reports.

Captain James Ahn, a graduate of UC Riverside and the Claremont McKenna College Army ROTC program, died in 2015 during a parachute training operation while participating with his Special Forces unit in Washington State. For all of us who knew and loved James, he will never be forgotten. He was the consummate person and professional who was respected by everyone he came in contact with. In James’ honor, we are sponsoring an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a Special Forces Veteran who is working towards the completion of a higher education degree.

These programs are provided at no cost to the recipients and require no Veterans of Foreign Wars affiliation.

Although we emphasize Buddy Poppies on Veterans Day and Memorial Day, it is important to realize that the distribution of Buddy Poppies should be a year-round exercise. Each time a Post participates in an activity where the public will be present, Buddy Poppies should be present as a fundraising tool and simply to recognize our fallen comrades. Where the VFW appears, Buddy Poppies should be a constant reminder that we will never forget those who have perished in the name of liberty. Just as “They Gave, Will You?” is a year-round thing, so should the distribution of VFW Buddy Poppies.
